Trucking is the backbone of American consumerism. From food, clothing, and cars to livestock, fuel, and furniture, truck drivers truly do it all. If you’re asking yourself if you should become a truck driver, the answer is yes! The trucking industry currently provides around 7.3 million jobs to Americans all around the world. So if you’re still unsure if you want to join the trucking industry, here are 10 reasons why you definitely should!

  • Offers variety and job options

There are so many different options available to get involved as a truck driver. You can operate van, reefer, or flat deck units within the truck industry,

  • Choices of long haul, regional, and local work

This ties directly into the last one as it’s more options for you to consider. You can haul freight locally, regionally, or get involved in long haul work. It’s up to you and the work that you want to do.

  • Trucking is challenging

Trucking is challenging but in the most beneficial way possible. Every day as a truck driver, you have to figure something out whether that is mud, snow, rain or ice. Truck driving is a constant learning experience for how to adapt and grow.

  • Provides autonomy and self-direction

Truck driving is not your typical office job by any means. Aside from being told the destination, arrival time, and freight your carrying, everything else is under your control. Truck drivers can feel a sense of self-satisfaction every time they succeed in delivering their hauls.

  • Truck driving is not a 9 to 5 job

  • You can earn good money

Most local truck drivers make $25+ an hour. Although this varies based on the company and type of work you are doing, the pay is generally good. On top of that, with the amount of schooling needed ad cost for your CDL, the return on investment is excellent.

  • Truck driving is an adventure

If you’re someone who always loves an adventure and a change of scenery, truck driving might be perfect for you. Long haul truck drivers are given the chance to go cross country and see so many new places on a regular basis.

  • Quick and easy training to get started

In order to become a truck driver, the process is quick, easy, and relatively inexpensive. Although the cost of getting your CDL varies from state to state, it will normally only cost somewhere between $3,000 to $7,000 to attend truck driving school. It also takes between 3 weeks to 6 months to finish school, but the average is only 7 weeks!

  • Provides good benefits

The trucking industry also provides great benefits to its drivers. Truck drivers are normally given medical and financial benefits from their employers. This includes an option for 401k and life insurance.

Overall, the trucking industry is always looking for hardworking, responsible, and driven individuals, without the trucking industry, consumerism in the United States, and around the world, would be completely different.
