Are you excited about your new career in trucking? You’ve prepared for this day for a while now but still, aren’t sure exactly what to expect. Just like with any new job, there are things that will be learned on the job. That is why we want to provide you with some great tips to help you succeed in the ever-growing field of trucking.

5 tips for new truck drivers

  1. Safety is #1
  2. Take pride in your truck
  3. Make smart food choices
  4. Be good to people
  5. Save your money

Safety is #1

No matter what, safety is your #1 priority. If you feel uneasy about something or feel you are required to do something after hours, don’t be afraid to say no. Your safety and the safety of others on the road comes before anything else. Risking your life or the life of another is not worth it.

Take pride in your truck

Keep your truck clean (inside and outside). Your truck represents you and the company you work for. Don’t neglect cleaning it because it could tarnish your reputation.

Make smart food choices

If you don’t know by now, being on the road can make it difficult to make healthy food choices. With fast-food restaurants at every exit and gas station treats galore, it is important that you make the important decision that your health comes before convenience. There are easy on-the-go snacks that you can pack or healthier options to choose from. You will be doing a lot of sitting, so making healthy decisions as well as making time for exercise is a good start to your new career.

Be good to people

No matter who it is, just be kind. You will run into people at the gas station, restaurants, on-the-job, and so on, but no matter who they are, it is important to be kind. Please take the time to be courteous with others and always show them respect. You are a reflection of the company you work for, remember that.

Save your money

It can be easy to spend money while on the road, but if you set a savings goal it can be easier to keep your money in your pocket than spending it. Remember the old phrase? A dollar earned is a dollar saved.
