We’ve been in business since 1974 as a liquid and dry transport company. We’re proud of our accomplishments, and with 90 freightliner tractors, 155 tank trailers and 32 van trailers operating in all 48 states and Canada, one might ask how we keep everyone safe. After all, that’s a lot of miles logged by our company each year. Safety is a top priority for us, and today we want to talk about what we do to keep our drivers safe on the road.
Our Safety Team:
We have an entire team dedicated to safety and training. Safety Director Bob Mitchell leads a team of four individuals: Denice Hudson, Greg Austin, Mark Gullette, and David Caig. They ensure that from day one of a driver’s tenure with us, he or she understands the importance of safety.
Things we do:
From our home hub in Lima, Ohio to our expansion hubs in Oregon, Ohio and Paris, Kentucky, every Roeder Cartage facility takes safety seriously. Each hub hosts two safety meetings per year to make sure that employees are up to date and knowledgeable on best practices. In addition, the safety department monitors the CSA seven BASICs on a daily basis. These measurements include unsafe and fatigued driving, health indicators such as fitness and drug or alcohol use, and vehicle-related markers including maintenance, cargo checks and crashes.
Finally, and most importantly, all new employees are mentored by an experienced trainer who has actual, over-the-road skills and exposure as a truck driver. In addition, each team member is expected to support anyone else in the company who may need it. We take our culture of safety seriously!
National recognition:
We’re proud to be recognized by the National Tank Truck Carriers as a tank trucking company who puts safety first. This prestigious award was previously only given to one trucking company per year. Sponsored by Heil Trailer International, we thank the NTTC for recognizing our efforts towards improving and maintaining driver safety.
When you join the Roeder Cartage team, be assured that your safety is one of our top priorities. In fact, you can listen to Safety Director Bob Mitchell, as he explains why we are a great (and safe) place to work.
