Health issues can arise for any reason, especially due to your genetics. Did you know that there are common health issues that truckers face every day? It’s true. Just because these health issues affect truckers, doesn’t mean that everyone is prone to them or that there isn’t anything you can do to help prevent them. That is why we want to go over some of the common health issues so that you are aware and can take preventative measures as your doctor prescribes.
Three common health issues for truckers:
- Skin Cancer.
- Obesity.
- High blood pressure.
Skin cancer.
Did you know that exposing areas of the skin to the sun over and over again raises your risks of skin cancer? That means riding in your truck day after day increases your risks if you are not taking the right measures to prevent it. The sun will hit one side of your body while driving. That is why it is important that even when driving, that you wear sunscreen and long sleeve shirts to help block the sun’s harmful rays.
Obesity.
When is the last time you have been to the doctor? It is important that you get a regular checkup at least once a year. Your doctor will check on a lot of things, with one of those being your weight. Your doctor will check your BMI to see if there are any concerns about obesity. Truckers are at a higher risk of obesity due to their sedentary lifestyle. With fast food drive-throughs, little to no exercise, and stress all present, it raises your risk for obesity. It is important to talk to your doctor to discuss what a healthy lifestyle looks like for you.
High blood pressure.
Do you have high blood pressure or hypertension? You may not know, and that is why it is important that you see your family doctor on a regular basis. Having high blood pressure can cause many health issues that can be preventable. High blood pressure can result because of your genetics, your diet, and your lack of exercise. That is why it is very important that you make time to get your blood pumping for at least 30 minutes a day when you are on the road.
